The management of construction projects in Ethiopia requires contemporary operational and strategic Construction technology & Management leadership, knowledge, skills and techniques. The undergraduate program in Construction Technology and Management (established in 2002 E.C..) at Addis College is the first distinct program of its kind in private institutions in Ethiopia, equipping graduates with the theoretical knowledge and practical and technical skills to manage people and projects within the construction industry.
In order to improve the current poor performance of the construction industry and add value for money from the management of complex construction projects, Addis College aimed to start the Master Program in Construction Management.
A range of core courses covering project & strategic construction management, procurement & contract management, construction economics & financial management, advanced people, organization, quality, cost, time, material & equipment management will give a foundation in the management construction projects while providing practical skills relevant to professional practice in construction. There will also be an optional course drawn from a range of subjects providing students with a broader understanding of Construction technology & Management issues and an opportunity to fit student interests and professional needs.
Program Objectives.
In line with the general objective of the college, the main objective of the proposed MSc program is to provide state of the art masters courses which enable candidates to solve practical Construction technology & Management related problems within Ethiopian construction industry through research and practical oriented education. This program has Construction technology & Management as its focus and delivers an understanding of principles that apply across the construction sector.
The program provides practitioners with access to a theoretical base and allows them to appraise current and future strategies in construction management.
The program aims are:
- To provide students with a detailed and thorough understanding of the theoretical principles and practices of Construction technology & Management in a construction industry
- To enable students to have a detailed knowledge, understanding and expertise of construction management practice in relation to client needs, procurement, management of people and organizations, finance management, and the planning and programming of projects in the context of the established bodies of knowledge.
- To enable students to understand and manage the quality, time, cost, value, risk, operational, financial and contractual aspects of the construction process.
- To provide students with the core skills and a thorough understanding of the responsibilities of the professional construction project manager capable of contributing to an organization.
